Something You Don’t See Everyday
As strange incidents go this was up there with the weirdest. The Removal truck parked up on the road adjacent the property we were about to help with a move and the front left wheel of the vehicle literally sank into the road. It was stuck firm!

Our first order of business when we realised the truck was out of action was to make sure the move was sorted so we called for extra manpower to ensure there would be no further delay. We arrived at 2pm at the property and even with the immobilised truck we were back at base by 7pm with the job completed.
However, it did cause us a technical hitch. When a truck of this size gets eaten up by a road we have to rely on the expertise of our well trained on-staff mechanic to get the truck out.
The problem was that there was an air pocket beneath the crust of the road surface – which itself was mixed with sand and therefore with too much heat it became soft. You can see from the image that the tyre literally became enveloped by the road surface – like quicksand. The weight of the truck was too much for this hidden soft-spot.
After applying a jack and taking great care in every move we made, the truck was eventually freed and there was no damage. These robust trucks were made to last. If only the same could be said of the road!
