Things To Remember When Moving Home
Take it from us, moving can be stressful! But being prepared can make the whole process much smoother. Packing will take up most of your time before the move, but there are a number of things to remember which are equally as important.

These include:
- Contacting Your Bank: Make sure you change the addresses on your debit and credit cards. This also includes any standing orders you have set-up; tell them your new address.
- Council Tax: Be sure to inform your local council of your old and your new property.
- Insurance: Car, house, contents and your personal insurance should all be moved to your new home. It is worth noting that you should give at least seven days’ notice before the move or you may not be insured.
- Dentist, Doctor & Hospital: You should de-register with your current practices and sign up to ones closer to your home.
- Schools: If you have children and they need to move to a school closer to your new property this will be one of your earliest considerations. There can often be waiting lists or it can take a while for the moving process to take place, so start as soon as possible.
- Utilities: Tell your Gas, Electric, TV and Water companies that you will be moving home and to stop charging you from a certain date so the new homeowner can pick up the bills where you left off.
- Mail: Arrange for your post to be forwarded onto your new address. There is a charge with this and it does vary on the length you wish to continue, but this single fee does cover all of your family.
This simple checklist will help you to move house much more efficiently and can help you to avoid any unwelcome extra charges. For any more information or advice on helping your family to move home get in touch with us today.
